How do you define flattering clothes?

Living the Gently Do Lifestyle includes gently doing what is right for you for your body too. And How I Dress, is a huge part of that for me.

Is this outfit “flattering” on me?

I guess it depends on how you define flattering. Typically our culture says flattering means it makes you look thinner. People say it in a lot of different ways. It makes your waist look small, your stomach is camouflaged, you look taller. BUT, it often all boils down to, you look thinner. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It just tends to limit me.

So no. This outfit isn’t flattering by that definition. But that’s not how I define flattering. Flattering to me means, do I feel good wearing it? Do I love how the fabric feels? Do I MOVE with ease in it because it makes me feel happy? Well then, I’m going to be standing taller, walking with a little sass and smiling a lot. And I think THAT is flattering.

This is why I love this outfit.

  1. The Jacket (Shacket is the cool term right?) reminds me a flannel shirt that my Dad used to wear. He died when I was 19. It’s warm and comforting.
  2. My dress is a hooded tunic made from wool. It’s not scratchy at all. Last year I wore one of the same company’s dresses (Wool&) for 30 days in a row for a challenge. LOVE!
  3. Old Ugg Boots that I’ve had for years. They still keep my feet warm and cozy.
  4. Bright Yellow backpack purse! It’s basically made out of plastic and I love that. It’s indestructible. And I have been carrying this brand of bags and backpacks (Lug) for over 20 years! It’s familiar, stylish and so practical.

Wear what you love. Wear what feels good. Wear what makes you happy. Gently do what is right for you AND your body.
